In his article, Adams talks about how OMEA conferences work, how and why the exhibitions at the conferences are so strong, and the recognition this has earned OMEA from other states over the years. He insists that “the result of the countless members who believed in and valued the event” (Pg. 63), and uses the musical circle of fifths to compare the OMEA to explain how each component it is involved with helps both parties. He goes in depth about the exhibitions at conferences, and how to get involved with them.
He talks about how the conferences are set up for the members, the exhibition booths and how they operate and depend on your help, not just the product that you buy. Each booth has experienced people who know what they are selling, and offer advice on how to use what they sell correctly and efficiently. You don’t even need to go to a conference to get in touch with different venders, and just telling them you are involved with OMEA means a lot to the relationship between them and OMEA.
I found a lot of information in this article. I now know the significance on how big the OMEA conference is for the states music teachers. Given that it has almost three times more exhibitions at a conference than most other states is a huge statement to how they not only get them involved, bur keep them around. It is good to know that once I become a teacher, I have one of the largest groups of businesses who care not just for my purchase but my satisfaction, and that they can help me become a better teacher in the process.
